1976 : Creation of the first MONTAZ Sports store
In 1976, Christian Montaz founded MONTAZ Sports in his grandmother's barn. In 1980, the first store opened in Saint-Pierre d'Albigny. A few years later, growing success prompted MONTAZ to move to Challes-les-Eaux in 1994.

1987 : Creation of MONTAZ Equipment
The ‘CATEX MONTAZ®’ explosive transport cable, designed to trigger avalanches remotely, became a flagship product, with 150 devices installed on 400 km of cable.

1999 : Launch of the MONTAZ.COM e-shop
In 1999, the MONTAZ Sports store went digital with wwww.montaz.com.The site quickly became an online sales platform, allowing many customers in France and abroad to discover MONTAZ products and services.
2005 : Move to La Ravoire
After Challes les Eaux, Montaz moved to La Ravoire, where our store is still located today.
Today, MONTAZ has become the go-to pro shop for winter sports and mountain enthusiasts in the region. Our new location allows us to offer an even more rewarding experience for our customers!

2010 : Acquisition of the WORDEN brand
In 2010, MONTAZ Distribution expanded its catalogue by acquiring the WORDEN brand, which specialises in endurance sports (Nordic skiing, alpine skiing, triathlon running, trail running, etc.). With shops in La Féclaz and La Ravoire, as well as a website, WORDEN perfectly complements our outdoor offering.

2017 : Creation of the WE LOVE POW POW festival
To celebrate the love of powder snow, MONTAZ created the WE LOVE POW POW, festival, combining ski film screenings and meetings with passionate riders. These highly popular events were awarded the ASAP prize for best outdoor sports event in 2019. Every year, the festival brings together more than 2 000 spectators who are passionate about skiing and powder snow and takes place in five cities (Chambéry, Aix-les-Bains, Grenoble, Annecy and Lyon)!
2019: MONTAZ.COM celebrates its 20th anniversary!

2020 : MONTAZ wins the award for best phygital strategy
Some awards are particularly gratifying, such as the award for best phygital strategy 2020 for outdoor retailers, presented by the industry at the Outdoor Retailer Awards.
This award, given by professionals in the outdoor sector, highlights our 20 years of efforts to combine digital technology with the in-store experience.

2022 : MONTAZ completely renovates its store
Summer 2022 marks a turning point for MONTAZ with a complete renovation of our store!
After several weeks of closure, we have reopened our doors in a completely redesigned space, showcasing our equipment and services in a modern and harmonious way. The optimised layout includes an enlarged rental area and a real ‘shop-in-shop’ for Picture Organic, while reinforcing our brand identity. More than just a store, it is a welcoming place where our team is delighted to welcome you and share our passion for board sports.
