La Sportiva Canyoning Shoe Size Guide
Use the official La Sportiva size chart and our advice to choose your canyoning shoe size according to foot length, the socks worn and your preferred level of support.
How do La Sportiva canyoning shoes fit?
La Sportiva canyoning shoes use European sizing and are available in half sizes to provide a precise fit.
Your usual shoe size provides an initial reference, but your choice must also account for the thickness of your neoprene socks, foot width and the internal volume of the model.
Canyoning shoes should hold the foot securely on wet rocks and during technical movement. However, they should not excessively compress the toes or cause painful pressure points.

How should you measure your foot?
- Place a sheet of paper against a wall on a flat floor.
- Put on the neoprene socks you intend to use.
- Stand with your heel against the wall.
- Mark the end of your longest toe.
- Measure the distance between the wall and the mark.
- Measure both feet and use the length of the longer foot.
Wearing the socks intended for canyoning is important, as neoprene takes up more internal volume than a standard sock.
Which La Sportiva canyoning shoe size should you choose?
Start with your usual shoe size while wearing your neoprene socks. Your foot should be securely wrapped without being heavily compressed.
Your toes should retain a small amount of space and should not hit the front while walking, jumping or descending. Your heel should remain securely supported to reduce friction and unwanted movement.
How does neoprene thickness affect the fit?
Thick neoprene socks occupy more room inside the shoe. A size that fits with thin socks may therefore feel too close when worn with thicker equipment.
Choosing a larger size is not always necessary. However, try the shoes with the intended neoprene thickness to check the available room and ensure there is no excessive compression.
How can you tell whether the size is correct?
Once the shoe is fastened, your heel should remain securely held while walking, standing on the forefoot or performing lateral movements.
Your toes should not be crushed or press heavily against the front. Your foot should not slide inside the shoe either.
Check that there are no painful pressure points around the forefoot, instep, ankle or heel.
What should you do if you are between two sizes?
Choose the larger size if your toes are compressed, if you use thick neoprene socks or if the shoe places excessive pressure on your instep.
Choose the smaller size only if your foot clearly lacks support in the larger size and your toes still have sufficient room.
Frequently asked questions about La Sportiva sizing
Do La Sportiva canyoning shoes run small?
The fit depends on the model, your foot shape and neoprene thickness. Your usual size is the best starting point, provided you try the shoes on with your canyoning equipment.
Should I choose a larger size with neoprene socks?
Not automatically. A larger size may be necessary if the neoprene heavily compresses your foot or reduces the room in front of your toes.
Should I try the shoes on with my canyoning socks?
Yes. This is essential for accurately assessing the available internal volume, as neoprene thickness directly affects the fit.
Can canyoning shoes be worn without neoprene socks?
This depends on the conditions and your equipment. The fit will be looser without neoprene if the size was selected for use with thick socks.
How much room should there be in front of my toes?
Your toes should be able to move slightly and should not hit the front while walking or descending. Excessive space may nevertheless reduce support.
Should my heel move inside the shoe?
Your heel should remain securely held. Significant heel lift may cause friction, blisters and reduced precision on footholds.
Should canyoning shoes fit very tightly?
No. They should fit closely and support the foot, but should not cause pain, numbness or excessive compression.
Can I choose the same size as my hiking shoes?
Yes, this may provide a useful starting point. However, the result may vary according to the model and the thickness of the neoprene socks worn.
Why do my shoes feel tighter when wet?
Neoprene and wet materials may affect the feeling of volume and support. The size should therefore account for the actual conditions of use.
Is a larger size better for wide feet?
Not always. A larger size primarily increases length. If the shoe feels narrow but the length is correct, the shape of the model may matter more than increasing the size.
